Alteration Appointment FAQs

Alteration Appointment FAQs

Thank you for booking an alteration appointment at Lucky Sixpence Bridal. Here is a list of alteration appointment FAQs. I hope they answer a few questions regarding alteration appointments, that you may find useful.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Having your dress fitted is an exciting time!  Come wearing the bra you will be wearing on your wedding day (if you are wearing one, some brides prefer to go without, especially if their dress has an illusion back. Bra cups can be fitted to most dresses if you don’t want to wear a bra but feel you need a little extra support).  Please also bring your wedding shoes, or shoes with the same heel height if you haven’t yet purchased them, and your underskirt if you are wearing one under your dress. If you have a fitted gown and you will be wearing control underwear, please ensure you are wearing this as it can make a difference to how your gown fits, and therefore impact the alterations required.

How many guests can I bring with me to my appointment?

I understand that you wish to share with close friends and family the excitement of having your dress fitted, however, as I am very limited on space, please bring no more than two adult guests with you (over 10yrs old) to your appointment.  Please do not bring along babies and young children (under the age of 10) as they tend to get very bored, and are often unable to sit still!

Are there any alterations that can’t be carried out?

Most alterations can be carried out, with a couple of exceptions:

Dresses can be taken in by up to 2 dress sizes. This is about 4 inches (10cm) in total. Any more than this, and the dress is likely to need extensive work carried out. In some cases, it will not be possible to alter your dress and you will need to consider whether it is more economical to buy another dress closer to your size. This is also the case if your dress is too small for you: While some dresses can have a corset tie back added, some dresses cannot be let out. If either of these apply, I will discuss your options with you at your first appointment.

Alteration charges

Alterations are charged for depending on the length of time they take.  I will provide a quote for the cost of any alterations to be carried out at your first fitting appointment.  However, please don’t feel that you are unable to say ‘no’ if you feel you would prefer to use a different seamstress after we have spoken!  A £50 deposit will be taken at the first fitting, with the remaining balance due on collection of your completed dress. I will contact you a few days before your final appointment to confirm the final charge. (Please note: if any further work is added, this will incur an additional charge which will be discussed with you at the time it is requested.)

How can I pay?

I take all major credit or debit cards (except American Express), or you can pay via bank transfer if you wish.  I do not take cheques.  A receipt will be provided, and you will need to sign a copy to confirm you are happy with your dress.  Please do tell me if you are unhappy in any way so I have chance to rectify any grievances.  Unfortunately, once you have left the premises, I will be unable to accept any responsibility for any damage or other fault. Please ensure you have checked your dress and are completely happy before you leave.

Can you store my dress for me after alterations have been completed?

No, I’m sorry, unfortunately I do not have the space available to store dresses and they will need to be collected on completion of the work.

All dresses will be steamed before collection.
